Drafting Fasani

Discussion in 'Carolina Panthers' started by meatpile, Sep 4, 2002.

  1. Both hurt their knees...Backus early in camp is now back 100%...he added 20 pounds or so of muscle in the offseason. McDougal just started practicing this week after hurting his 3 knee weeks ago. they'll start Kerwin Blaise over McDougal in Miami because he is from Miami (used to the heat) and has played pretty well....actually very well.

here's a stat that will sneak up on ya...the Lions had the 5th best (yardage) offense in the NFL which was number 3 in the NFC for the pre-season. I haven't seen the breakout, but I bet the majority of that was when Harrington was in the game.

Another one, the Lions had the best run defense in the NFC.

yep. I liked what they did against the run last year, as noted with my talk of the five man lines and such. DBs sucked and LBs are really really average.

    Is Shawn Rogers healthy?

That guy was a moster for you guys last year, but I heard he had some offseason ailments.

  4. he had some lose particles cleaned up out of his ankle...the one he hurt in college which caused him to drop to the 2nd round of last year's draft...missed the first 3 weeks of camp.

It was minor and he's now 100%...so is Luther Ellis after playing last year with one arm. I'd put that DT tandem up against any other one in the league...add Porcher to one side and Kalamba Edwards (S. Carolina) and you've got a hard to block D Line...which will help the geriatric corners in Eric Davis and Todd Lyght.

That's a fine defensive line. Hopefully your offensive line won't get your franchise QB killed.

Harrington may en up better than Carr. Always tended to like guys who show more accuracy than a guy with the big arm.

    Well back to the topic.

    Consider this -

Kerry Collins - Capers' Guy. Failed. Enter b-line.

Jeff Lewis - Seifert's guy. B-line's pro bowl year keeps Lewis from getting seen. Finally, regardless of play, Seifert cuts B-line to put in HIS GUY. Even though Seifert drafted Weinke, it was an afterthought. Lewis was HIS GUY. Weinke was not.

    Lewis Failed. Enter Weinke.

Weinke = B-line. He's nobody's 'guy', and he ain't playing like B-line did. Fasani is Henning's guy. Henning is the OC/QB coach, and Fasani is HIS guy, not Weinke.

Seems like the writing is on the wall. Unless Weinke has a near pro bowl year, Fasani is going to be getting all the attention. I could be wrong, but it ain't looking like the coaches care much for Chris.

I don't think we can really call Fasani anyone's guy at this point. A guy they like, may want to compete with. But should we really struggle, as much as I'd like to look at other positions, should a Leftwitch fall in our lap, I don't think Fasani is going to have us look the other way.

I really do think that they want Weinke to be the guy. He's got the arm, when he knows what the hell he's doing he's very accurate, both in total production and in overall play.

That had been in question at times in his evaluation process. He had a very accurate combine workout and when he's sure of himself the only thing that hinders him is that occasional way-off that seems to be in his mechanics. But his mechanics are usually fine.

Sounds alot like the arguments we had about Lewis before he was yanked and released.

Not to downplay anything, things are just kinda la-la in Pantherland.

certainly, meat. When a player has undoubted talent but for one reason or another hasn't done it yet there's going to be some amount of that talk. In this case you're not looking to unload Weinke as quickly, I figure.
