And I'm sure the chargers wish they hadn't picked Ryan Leaf, 1st or 7th. Hindsight is 20/20. And, we got Smith and Weinke with our picks when Barlow was taken. (I can't remember if he was 3rd or 4th). Address needs, grab Goings as a Free Agent. I'd rather have Foster than Barlow.

    But I digress.....

My point is that a plan was in place. See if Weinke can do it, and address an immediate, certain need - DE. Grab a highly *by us* rated qb late (wound up a free pick as a result of trading down) as a hedge against Weinke. If Weinke struggles, which they think he is, see if you can salvage something out of your 5th rounder, and you've still got your DE. In the end, if the 5th round pick sucks, WHO CARES? I think the upside of that risk was much greater than not getting a look at Weinke, passing on Peppers, and grabbing Harrington.

If Peppers struggles and Harrington shines, this is gonna get talked about constantly.

I still don't buy that they had Goings and Barlow rated equally. No one did, certianly not the Univ. of Pittsburgh.

Fasani I can buy, assuming you didn't think much of Ramsey, and not everybody did.

Fans won't remember that thought process in the long run - that is for sure. Its Peppers vs Harrington. Period. The only way anyone mentions Fasini in that picture is if he turns out to be better than Harrington. Oh well, again, I like what we did getting Pep at 2. You will always have those fans that want the next guy picked in any draft. Human nature I guess. I would have taken Peppers at #1 had we been there - so to get him at 2 was lucky IMO.

I would have taken Roy Williams before Harrington

If Peppers was gone, I'd have preferred Jammer.

    Yeah. We did good.

Yep. Jammer was #2 on my list before the draft. Carr wasn't until 5 and Harrington until 8. Definately take Jammer if not Peppers.

And if they didn't have confidence in Weinke, or weren't sure, and just wanted Peppers more / didn't like Harrington, that's their choice. If they were at all serious about trying to develop Weinke, I'm not sure this is the way to go about it.

I don't think Fasani was a "plan". They liked him, he was still there, they decided to go with him. He showed he didn't mess around, he'll work hard, and will probably develop into more than he is. I don't think they would come in with this being "the plan" and hopefully not. Hopefully it was a strong surprise that Fasani played well.

All in all this still just doesn't involve the top two quarterbacks though, at least in my mind, and not in the coaches' actions.

You been checking out Roy's package again?

  9. Harrington is looking like a superstar in the making......Detroit finally has their 1st franchise QB since Greg Landry...at least until the offensive line gets him killed.
