If Dallas wins or ties at Washington and we loose at NO, do we move up a spot in the draft? (I'm not advocating loosing. I'm just asking?)

I can only hope we do not move up in the draft. Depending on first round picks is a risk... This team just needs to focus on what it has been doing and try to end this season with a victory. That to me, is more important for the team than a first round pick that may or may not develop.

No team ever thinks about draft position. Fans care, but no team does.

Why would a player roll over just so a guy can be drafted ahead of him.

New Orleans should beat us. But I picked us because Brooks is hurt and their defense plays like ass crack lately. We might sneak one with Peete in their.

I appreciate all that. I wrote int the post I wasn't advocating loosing. I know that the coaches and players wouldn't do that. Let's face it, particularly on offence, a lot of guys are playing for their jobs so I know they'll do thier best.
I'm just asking if, since Dallas beat us in the regular season, do they pick after us if we finish with the same record?

Tuff to say with football, but in basketball, some teams once cared enough to tank so much at the end of a season that we now have the lottery.

It's not the players, it's managment. Coaches can easily help a team to tank with poor game plans, poor game management, holding players out for small injuries, etc. With the Panthers, no one would suspect a thang if we came out with a poor game plan -- it'd kinda look like what we were doing all season long.

If it was me I'd tank. If we could get up to about the 6th pick, I think we would have a chance at one of the QB's -- probably Manning. I'd rather lose a game than have to give up all my first day picks to get him. Gotta think that it'll be discussed between Fox and Hurney.

So, if you are 1-14 and Detroit is 1-14 and Vick or Ricky Williams is coming out, you are going to try and win your last game? Why?

It's a mentality. You never want to have the mentality that it's ok to lose...ever. You always want to win, and instill the urgency to win in your players. The attitude and mentality do carry over to the next season and permeate into the character of the team.

Also, why would a coach or player risk his job by trying to tank a game. That extra win by a 1-14 coach may get him an extra year reprieve, but another loss could be the final straw. And as Piper alluded to, why would a player roll over to give his team a higher pick to select his replacement.

MOst of the time a player doesn't make that choice. There are many teams that would have Weinke starting this week and sitting all there starters out. They would use this game and the last few games as an evaluation of talent rather than wasting playing time on a dried up hasbeen that you know is done. Just because it's Fox's philosophy doesn't mean it's the NFL's. You won't see Faulk play this week. You won't see Burnell, Jimmy Smith or Taylor play. You won't see any worn down veterans on losing teams playing. Why? Because whether the team finishes 5-11 or 6-10 doesn't matter. What matter's is evaluating your team and advancing in the draft. You guys are quoting Fox's ethics and claiming them as the NFL's. Well your WRONG!

Unless Fox is cutting Weinke, then he should have played the last two games. Otherwise cut his ass and quit calling him the future. That shit is getting old.

Actually, the players you mentioned that will not be playing are injured, its not simply for evaluation. But that's neither here nor there. The fact is that yes, some teams out of the playoff picture do use this time to evaluate players for next season, but they don't do so with the intent of tanking a game for draft purposes. They evaluate in an effort to make their teams better. They still try to win every game even if they are evaluating talent.

I think its pretty well a given that Weinke will not be back next year, so playing him would provide no purpose. And Fox stated he did not want to start Fasani because he does not want to risk damaging his confidence (in other words, he's not ready). Also, most of the players we might look at to evaluate are already playing quite a bit because of our numerous injuries. And this team needs to learn how to win consistently more than improving it's draft spot.
