    I could have worded that better. It's more like, how can UNC-Duke be 'the ultimate rivalry' when Duke wasn't even UNC's main rival until 1990 or so. I would still argue it's the best rivalry going in the last 20 years, but that doesn't mean it's not overrated.

    The teams have combined for five National Championships since 1989, and a ton of Final Fours (can't be bothered to look it up but it's probably close to 20.) No football or basketball rivalry has that amount of national success, pretty evenly divided between both schools, while the head-to-head matchups in that span is close as well. It's a great rivalry.

    Yea, I know.

    I'm not the only one that thinks the rivalry is overhyped though.

    It's amazing to me that Duke & Carolina have never played each other in the NCAA tournament.

    You realize the soonest they would likely ever meet is a final four. They could possibly meet in an elite eight, but that would take one of the two having a substantially lower seed then the other.

    Niagara-Canisius is a bigger rivalry. same with Clarkson-St. Lawrence hockey

    Interconference battles in the NCAA tourney are rare, but I assume that Collin is suggesting that both teams often go far so eventually they would match up. They almost did in 1991, when they were both at the Final Four. Kansas upset UNC in the game where Dean got tossed, and then Duke upset UNLV that night. It seems like there was another year where they were one round away from playing but Duke lost in the elite 8, a few years back I think.
