Looks like in might have been smart to let him go, regardless of our current depth at WR:

Patriots | Hayes Frustrated - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
13:35 PT: Tom Curran, of the Providence Journal, reports New England Patriots WR Donald Hayes, who was inactive last weekend, is frustrated with himself right now. However he said it’s all about being a team player and trying to better his situation in the following weeks. Hayes said there are a lot of things he should have known that he hasn’t, in regards to the offensive system.

Thanks for posting that. I never saw any point to throwing a ton of money at Hayes. He was mediocre at best with occasional flashes of potential. Guess they were just flashes......that burned out.

Somewhere recently I saw some mumblings about how the Panther's should have re-signed him considering the current WR situation. This little blurb should take care of that.

  3. Hes being buried in the depth chart, Id be getting pissed off too!

Hayes has the size and tools to dominate at WR.

I think it's just a matter of going from a Panthers offense to the Patriots offense is like going from College to Pros.......meaning he's got a lot to learn still.

Plus too, the Patriots have a lot of people who KNOW the offense, and if they get into a late season must win, and they're hurt at WR, Hayes can come up big for them.

Glad to hear he's frustrated though. Means he want the ball and not just a paycheck.

I still think it was a mistake to let him go, but what's done is done. If we had cut Jeffers sooner, I think Hayes is still a Panther.

  5. Yeah, I liked Hayes when he was here and I was hopeing that he'd stick around. He could surely use him around here now, in an offense where we're sorely looking for a WR.

He was never good at basic things a receiver can do - run routes, get position, be physical - that a corner is all but forbidden to do. Every ball that goes Hayes' way was a jump ball.
hell, even when he was open, he still often made an acrobatic catch out of it just because he stopped on routes and ran poor routes. He was, in the end, an amazing athlete with great hands and nose for the ball that couldn't get the part in the middle straight.

And so he's not only not starting, he's in street clothes. Hooray beer, I'm glad I called this one.

Yep. I noticed he was inactive last week and thought 'damn'.

PLus, NE was one of the teams going after Jackson. They might have cut Hayes. I don;t think they gave him much of a signing bonus.

I was all for Donald after his rookie year... but then I quickly realized he would never amount to much. I called this years ago and told people we needed to beef up at WR, they said no, your wrong, we have Donald behind Moose and Jeffers will be back...
