Does Anyone Care About The Bobcats?

keep in mind that season tickets are purchased in advance of the season. that means this year's season tickets are held by people who liked last year's team. i suspect many, like you, won't be renewing since it's clear the trajectory for this team has reversed.

 

i have to admit, after the hornets left i wasn't sure nba ball is really what charlotte would be interested in. the hornets were a good team the last couple years they were in charlotte. and yet the place was a ghost town. i know people didn't like shinn, but you think people show up to bulls games cuz they love jerry reinsdorf?

somehow, the nba tried again in charlotte. finally, the team had a winning season and now it's back to square one? i don't get the thinking. i think you're right that there's only so much patience people have for this kind of thing and i'm guessing nba ball is already 2nd fiddle to college.

 

What would really turn things around is if they could land a superstar free agent. I know Charlotte is not an ideal market for that but if Jordan throws enough money at one it might happen.

 

Well it's not exactly who the owner is, but how the owner runs the team. Jerry has done more to make a winner there, of course was lucky to draft Jordan, but always put the pieces around Jordan. He also has a pretty good team going on now. Shinn fucked up the Hornets and I think most people saw a lot of that with Johnson. As much as Jordan is a hero in these parts, he better hope the salary clearing he is doing is part of a plan to get some talent and build a team in the next year or two or the franchise will be done soon.

I for one don't care for a lot of the ghetto product the NBA has become. It's nothing remotely close to the Magic, Bird and Jordan days.

 

but "the jerrys" were lambasted for letting the dynasty fade. they had the best team on the planet one year and turned it into a train wreck the next. the tim floyd era was an abomination and they're really only now back to an elite team after years of rebuilding. so clearly people don't seem to care so much about ownership as long as the team is winning.

 

Well, there were some decent and bad years in the middle for sure. I realize there were some issues, but I certainly haven't followed them that close since Jordan left, so I don't know if Jerry was like a Shinn/Johnson type where it seemed like he didn't give a shit about the product or just some combination of bad luck and decisions. The market there is no comparison to what Charlotte has, so there are enough to still fill the seats even if a lot don't like the ownership.

Again, I don't care for the NBA product now, so for me to have any interest in the NBA, it really would depend on the product on the floor for Charlotte, not wins and loses, but it would be nice to have the attachment like I had back during the first years.

The Bogues, Chapman, Cureton, Curry, Rambis, Reid and Tripucka days were fun as hell win or lose. It also was nice when those other teams came to town back then when the star players were actually players.

 

bobcats had a chance to really win over some fans with a decent playoff run and the possibility of no nfl. What do they do? Trade away one of the best and most popular players. For as good as mj was on the court, he is just as bad off the court.

 

I think a lot of people felt betrayed by Shinn and the NBA as a whole when the talent exodus started with the Hornets. That team that was built around LJ and Zo had a lot of fans behind it but when Zo left it took the air out of the sales. A lot of people probably think there will never be an NBA team in Charlotte that has a fair chance to win a championship. That kills fan support.

If Jordan builds a winner and a team that can complete with the elite then fan support will be there. Granted that is a big "IF".

 

I don't care about the Bobcats, but aren't they like a game back in the playoff hunt?
