Boyd Tinsley has released his solo album "True Reflections." It only sold 10,500 copies in it's first week.

Dave Matthews will release his solo album "Some Devil" this fall. :mushy:

I didn't know Dave was doing solo. Doesn't matter, does it? I mean Everyday was basically a solo album. This one a collaborative thing with other people, or just him with studio musicians?

True Reflections wasn't that good a song. It might not totally suck if it wasn't so repetitive and if Boyd wasn't singing.
That album might grab 100,000 or so if it's sold on DMB tour trailers.
But I figure I'll pirate a couple tracks anyway, just to see if there's much to like.

I'm not really sure who will be on Dave's solo project. I've had a really hard time finding out details. I'm pretty sure Tim Reynolds will be on it, and probably a couple of guys in the band. you're right though "Everyday" was basically just Dave and (the evil, evil man) Glen Ballard.

I think the only reason Boyd's album has sold as much as it has is because he's in DMB. I've heard the reviews were not kind. Let me know what you think of the stuff you hear.

He also had a 1/8 page ad, length of the page, in Rolling Stone. Doesn't hurt sales, someone'll buy it out of simple curiosity at that point.

    Yeah, Ballard sucks ball.
Tell the truth though, it was and still is time to be not so acoustic. The sax, violin voices have been heard so much. The problem is, writing them in as studio voices rather than letting them interpret and fill as they always had, was destructive.

Yeah, Reynolds. Gotta have some sort of driving guitar part in there, since Dave will never be much for that.
Assume Victor Wooten to be on it somewhere. Assume that you'll see another guitar player or two. Probably safe to assume you'll see a track or two with a chick singer, don't know if Alanis would come back again but they seemed to click. Basically anybody who's collaborated with them in the past (Popper, Fleck, for instance) would be an interesting assumption to return, including people who merely sat in a long time like Trey Anastasio. Or some young players he's involved with.
Is it going to be on the major label, or his ATO?

LMK what happens with the leg. Guess you'll have to PM me, I'll be the hell away from here.

I think it'll be on RCA, but not ATO. It's funny, I heard not too long ago that the whole band was trying to get away from RCA and now Boyd and Dave are releasing albums with them.

I think it would be really interesting if Dave had very few guests on his album. I would like to see what he can do by himself and hopefully it would be better than "Everyday." Trey Anastaio would be an interesting guest and I loved his voice with Alanis' on the tracks on "Before these crowded streets"

I'll let you know about the leg. Enjoy your trip. :)

    I love this quote:

"One of the things that brought us together was music," Matthews told Rolling Stone earlier this year, "and only music, not opinions about the whole universe, although we share some and we don't share others. Because we spend so much time together, I can get on people's nerves. That can be said about everybody. But we can still fall back in the music, which is kind of lucky for us. I don't think any of us could imagine this band with anyone else in it. We'd have to change the name. I'm always fired up to go out with the band because it's a fucking ball. Regardless of whether people like us or not, the shit is fucking hot when we play."

Trey Anastasio is confirmed by Phish's website to be on the Dave Matthews solo album. Dirty Dozen Brass Band is rumored to be on it. :)
