I know that there are exceptions to the stereotypes - I accounted for that twice in my post

None of that changes my belief that MOST people can control their weight. Very few handicapped, old, or mentally retarded people can control their ability to move limbs, age, or brain activity. Do you disagree with that?

Just so there's no mistake, I HATE PC. It's not about touchy-feely self esteem issues; it's about being a logical person who treats people based on their deeds, words, and actions, not what they look like.

But I see what you're saying.

I would consider a true addiction or psychological eating disorder as a different case, but I also believe that both of these are vastly overused as excuses here in the States. Addictions should roughly occur at the same percenatge all over the world, but these disorders occur in a diproportiate rate in the US. That leads me to believe that there is an over diagnosis of this. That belief, coupled with the politically correct trend to absolve everyone of personal responsibility says to me that something is not right with the statistics.

As I said, I don't disagree with what you're saying at all. I disagree with how most people react to these people. Most peoples' first reaction is to judge them harshly for their condition and to have no pity for them. Even in the 99+% people that they are correct about, I find this to be an inappropriate reaction. It's as though being caring or merciful towards people costs them something. In my mind, I pity the small percentage of people who get judged wrongly not only for being a victim of their condition, but for being judged unfairly. I pity the vast majority who get judged accurately for whatever psychological problems that have led them to lose control of themselves in this way, and for living in such a merciless and materialistic society where people hold onto a little bit of unconditional kindness like it's their last dollar.

I think it's a very strange world we live in if people have to be faultless for others to pity or care about them.

My question is, again, why is it people should worry about what they weigh in the first place?

In my case, I have maintain a certain level of physical fitness due to military regulations. And weight becomes a problem when it causes health complications, or in the worst case, impairs your ability to fuction and move around. In the latter case, heredity and medical conditions do play a role in people's ability to "control their weight.

For everyone else, what's the problem, other than, "well, I just think she looks gross," or "OH. MY. GOD. Becky, LOOK. AT. HER BUTT."? Often, those people who get pointed out and laughed at in public have something else in addition to their weight that makes them look awkward or otherwise unattractive. Like "tacky" clothes that don't fit, or a dirty and sloppy appearance. Again, what's wrong with admitting that full-figured women are attractive - like any other woman - when they carry themselves with grace and confidence and glow with their own vital energy?
