Yes taking pulse is easy, usually in the mid 60's. Funny how my pulse quickens when I am in Cafe Risque

  4. Boo, how do you measure your body fat?

    This works...

If a diet doesn't include exercise and proper nutrition it will not work guaranteed....

Case and point! A diet itself is hard but once you lose the weight, you have to go on an unrealistic "maintenance phase." It'll last till the first holiday comes around and then here comes every pound you lost and they'll bring some new buddies with them. My brother lost 110 on it and did not do the maintenance phase and immediately gained 125 back. My sister in law lost 20 on it. She DID do the maintenance phase because she saw what happened to my brother. She stayed on it 6 months. One year later- she is 45 pounds above where she was when she went on Atkins. She said if she had wanted to gain 25 pounds, that eating ice cream would have been much easier.

Fred speaks the truth...short term dieting leads to short term weight loss, and the more fad dieting you do the more screwed up your metabolism becomes. It's a biological fact. A permanent lifestyle change will give you permanent results. Logical isn't it?

    Ok Tiorted Snoil...

how did I do on this. I went out walking tonight at work concentrating on pushing my fat ass around a predetermined distance. 3 laps around the building(s) I work equals 2 miles. My starting pulse was 74. After 1 lap (~.7 miles) pulse was 124, after 2 laps (~1.4 miles) pulse was 128, and at the end of 2 miles (roughly 32 minutes) pulse was a robust 138. Was I close to the level I needd to be to be burning fat? Oh and it took me 12 minutes to get back to normal pulse rate

I've been there and done that will ALL of the diets - for years! Recently, I went on the Atkins diet - lost 15lbs in the first week - then nothing - not a thing for six weeks afterward. :( Plus, it made me damn grumpy, constipated, and my skin looked spotty and horrid after a couple of weeks - yuck - no thanks!

Now - I've just concentrated on the excercise thing. I swim every morning - (okay, I can only do twelve laps - but it's a good start) and hike up a huge freaking hill every night. Food wise, I've not been too hard on myself. If I want chocolate - I eat it - (in moderation of course)...Basically - I'm just eating moderately, the things that I enjoy - and if I overinduldge, then I work it off the next day.

It may not sound like rocket science - but after years of punishing myself with food, I finally feel that this might just be working for me. I'm not that overweight - but it's been my nemesis for longer than I care to remember. So far - I've lost 35lbs... and I can now wear a G String without my ass gobbling up the string! Go Me! :D
