CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina coach John Fox said Mike Tice called him Monday to apologize for not shaking hands after the Panthers beat the Minnesota Vikings.

Tice was angry after Fox called a time out with eight seconds left in Carolina's 21-14 victory on Sunday so that placekicker Jon Hilbert could attempt a 39-yard field goal.

The kick failed, but had it been good, the Vikings would have needed two scores in four seconds to win the game.

"When you call a time out with eight seconds left to try a field goal, no, I'm not shaking your hand afterwards,'' Tice said on his postgame radio show. "That's rubbing it in a little bit.''

Fox said Tice called him Monday morning to apologize.

"I think he thought that was a mistake,'' Fox said. "I haven't given it a second thought since this morning and its over and done with.''

Now, if i remember correctly, it was a fourth down we kicked on. And taking a delay of game would have put us back five yards. Let's face it, our kicker ain't the best outside of about 30 yards. Was fox supposed to take a knee and give them the ball with 8-10 seconds left? Tice needs to worry about the whiners on his team and quit worrying about an obvious smart move (although it could've backfired) by our coach. Dumbass Tice.

I might make a point to shake hands with every coach and their coordinators if I was him. Hope his resume is current.

    Randy ratio. What a moron.

It was the right call. I had hoped they could have trimmed a little more off the clock though.

I wondered if they could have ran around for 8 seconds on 4th down, but I wanted to see that guy kick a FG, just to see if he could really.

But it was the right call. Had there been a defensive penalty on that last gasp, they could have had one more play.

    Wow.

Tice sounds like a real prick when he talks, but fuck. What an asshole.

I'm really glad we beat his ass. Fuck him.

and remember, he was hired from within because they felt he could be the best chance of getting something out of Moss.

Calling the TO and giving Hilbert (which rhymes with Gilbert...we should have known better) another chance to put one up, was more of a try out than an attempt to rub anything in. I think Tice realized that later on and could relate with his Kicking situation of late.
