A lot of things can happen. Last year Duke was looking straight at a #2 seed or even a #3 seed before going into the ACC tourney. UCONN or Villanova have to lose but I think both of them have wrapped up a #1 seed. The west is weird because a lot of times the #1 seed out west doesn't deserve to be that ranking like Washington who I believe squeaked just inside the Top 10 on selection Sunday and got a 1 seed in the Albuquerque region even though they didn't deserve it. After seeing Gonzaga playing teams like San Francisco and San Diego down to the buzzer they should not get a #1 seed. If anything GW should get it over them. If Michigan State fell out of the top 25 this week, Gonzaga doesn't have a win against the current Top 25.

I can't envision a scenario in which Duke would lose its #1 seed. Even if they lost in the first round, Ohio State would need to win the Big Ten tournament, Villanova would need to win a close game against UConn in the Big East championship game, and even then I can't see Memphis or Gonzaga doing anything impressive enough to pass Duke. Honestly it's a pretty weak year for the top teams.

GW may be the Gonzaga of the past and get low balled into a 5 seed. No way either gets a 1. Gonzaga will be lucky to hold off teams like OSU and Texas for a 2 seed. And of course UNC, but I think we will lock ourselves into the 3 seed, even with a good or bad tourney showing.

You win the tourney and beat Duke again in doing so you are a lock for a 2.

Is that a "real" lock, or a sarcastic "sly" lock a la UNC's title chances in 05?

I think Villanova deserves a #1 seed myself. It's probably not going to happen but I can't imagine anyone is looking forward to having Villanova in their regional. Too bad Gonzaga is pretty much assured a #1 spot ven tho they haven't played anything but doormats since December.
