I don't think Windu was ever close to killing Palpatine. That was all an act to get Anakin to decide to help him. If it had become clear that Anakin would not act then I think Palpatine flings Windu out the window like a bug.

He turned in palpatine's office. If he had chose to help Windu, or simply ignore the situation then he does not turn to the dark side.

I disagree, I think he turned before he got there. Why would he have gone there if he hadn't already decided that he wanted Palpatine to train him?

I think he partially went to possibly help Windu and the rest, he knew they would need his help if they were to have a chance. I think he wanted to try and make sure Palpatine was taken alive as well so he could possibly learn the secrets. I am sure he did not go there intending to get Windu killed.

For starters it took Luke to turn him from the darkside to the light in order to bring balance to the force. How do you know Anakin is more powerful than Luke?

no Palpatine can defeate Mace Windu. Think about it Palpatine stomped Yoda's ass. Palpatine held back against Mace in order for Anakin to take pity on him and turn to the darkside. Why else do you think he was saying "I'm the only one that can help you save her." while he was shooting his own dumb ass with lightning bolts.

I don't know that Anakin is more powerful than Luke, but I do know that he's more powerful than Yoda, Obi Wan or Palpatine, which is what I was trying to say although I worded it incorrectly.

Point being that if Anakin doesn't turn to the dark side, he defeats Palpatine and brings balance and harmony to the universe.

Anakin wasn't strong enough to beat Palpatine at the time it was discovered that he was Sidious. This is evident in that he couldn't beat Obi-Wan, or do you think Obi-Wan could beat Palpatine.

But Anakin did turn to the dark side. That's why Luke is the chosen one. He was able to resist the same temptations Anakin did and even bring his own father back.

I think you are missing the point on the whole "balance to the force" deal, Brain. Probably a few more of you too. It's Lucas' take on Chaos versus Order. Neither side in totality is good for anyone, including the jedi council in episodes 1-3.
