Did Anakin's turn to the darkside really matter?

Order 66 pretty much wiped the Jedi out and the storm troopers would have gotten the rest if they did not go into hiding. The emperor still wins regardless of Anakin's decision. In fact if Anakin does not turn then the emperor probably just kills him and Windu in his office.

yes... because it set forth all the events necessary to bring the Force in to balance. Had he not Luke (the chosen one) would never have been able to go on to follow the path he did and eventually lead Anakin back to the light in order for him to destroy Palpatine.

So you think that if Anankin never turns to the darkside then the emperor is never destroyed and it actually leads to a worse consequence than what happened due to his turn to Vader?

If Anakin doesn't turn, he isn't in the emperor's office at that time.

If Anakin doesn't turn to the darkside, then Yoda and Obi Wan continue his training. After all they both survived both Order 66 and the storm troopers well enough for at least 20 years. Anakin is the most powerful Jedi/Sith dude ever and if he's completely trained, he defeats Palpatine with no problem, thus bringing balance and harmony to the force.

If Anakin doesn't turn, Palpatine is killed by Windu. That is the exact moment that sets the table for the final 3 1/2 episodes as I see it. He may have been on the path leading to the dark side up to that point, but without Palpatine and the dark side to cloud his mind, he comes back to his senses.

Palpatine never gives the order to execute #66 either.

Errrrr, we do realize this is a movie, right? So one can write the script anyway they want.
