Why in the hell can't we get a O Lineman here who can Long Snap?

    :banginghe :banginghe :banginghe

I wonder how many teams carry a long snapper who doesn't actually play a position.

    Is it that common?

Most teams have a guy who played TE or LB in college, and that guy found a nice niche as a snapper. They end up being listed as a LS - a specialist. He only practices with the special teams. The only team who really 'uses' their long snapper anywhere else on the field is Philadelphia. Mike Bartrum sees time in multiple TE sets, and he's even caught a few TD passes.

It would be nice if we had a guy who did more, but we shouldn't ignore what Kyle brings to the table. He's never screwed a snap as a Panther, as far as I can remember, and he's capable of getting down the field to cover. That's everything you can ask for out of the position.

I think it is. D. D. Lewis (a starting LB) used to long snap for the Cowboys for years, but he's the only regular player I remember doing it.

Isn't Draft the only one who could play all 3 spots? I don't see us letting him go though I'm not sure anyone other then Morgan & Davis are "locks". I'm good with keeping Draft simply to destroy Atlanta 2 x a year - and yes I know that's not a given except to the superstitious.

If my memory isn't failing me, I think we had a specialist long snapper under Capers, then we tried to get a guy who could also help at a position except that he kept screwing up as a snapper, so we went back to the specialist-type and have stayed there. It's not a huge price to pay considering how important it is that every snap needs to be perfect. We need that guy a lot more than we need specialist gunners like Hankton.

And regarding Draft, to be clear, I wasn't saying he's on the bubble. I'm saying that because of his age, salary structure, and limitations that he's less useful overall.

I don't mind people disagreeing when they have a legitimate reason to do so. Disagreeing for the hell of it bugs me, though.

I rememeber a recent game, the opponents LS was tiny. Somehing like 230lbs. How he stayed healthy is beyond me

He's losing the battle to Seward. But not to Ciurciu. And while he's not been cutworthy - Adams has actually been pretty good - he's not been better than Anderson, who plays the same position, is a 3rd rounder, and should be a starter next year, give or take. I can't see them keeping 3 WLB and only one player who could back SLB and MLB. There's always the off chance they do something weird like cut Draft and keep Seward/Adams, but I don't see it, unless they believe Adams can play backup SLB (which I don't).
