Dell Computers Opinion?

    I got Vista on my new one back in November. Shoulda gotten XP.

    I'm assuming a Vista service pack will be coming out eventually that will take care of some issues.

    It's already out, and it's definitely a greatly improved experience...
    Vista RTM had a minor performance issue for me, but it had several nagging issues where explorer would hang and some other pains. Not enough to make me close to going back to XP - the instant search alone is worth it. Anywho, with SP1, every issue I had was fixed. It takes several hours to install, takes many GB, etc., but it worked great.

    That said, both of my machines running vista are very powerful boxes, so take that with a grain of salt.

    Kids should have laptops in college. Taking the laptop to a quiet area in the library, getting some coffee and hanging out in a courtyard getting some work done wirelessly, etc...gotta have it.

    I've had 3 over the last 6-7 years and I've never had a problem with any of them. I've never had to use customer support so I can't give an opinion on that but I'd recommend Dell based on how they've worked for me.
