after a bunch of talk on race horses:

-Tommy John was the only option. Could've gone with Pat Connor or the Jobe Clinic (invented TJ apparently). Connor more accesible, comfortable with him.

(not a part of the convo, but Beuerlein last night admitted he had similar problems and the timing wasn't right, or else he would've been a candidate. He didn't say whether this was the injury in 2000 or later with the Broncos, but quietly the lateness of the 2000 surgeries were a concern by Panthers staff at the time and one of the concerns when it came to getting rid of Beuerlein. Another was related - that he waited until late June to have his last surgery. I'd heard a version from staff that included that the team wanted him to lay out of the Pro Bowl, where he aggravated injury, instead of getting the surgery ASAP, but I've heard conflicts on that, too. Either way, there was a pattern of behavior where the team and Beuerlein clashed, relating to health and playing time in that year that never really surfaced)

-talk on Ryne Robinson, Steve Smith. "We're going to miss him, there's no doubt. But we're so much better offensively now than we were in 06 (when Smith wasn't in for the first two games). It's light years, night and day. Up front, and at receiver we're ten times better. We're more insulated for something like this now. Would I want him? Absolutely. But you see Moose, he hasn't missed a bit. Hackett is a pro, does everything right. And we've got some guys for competition. Jarrett is coming along, still a very good looking specimen.

Hackett has done a lot of slot, talks about Proehl being the best in the slot, and how Hackett has that. Picked up right off with Moose, body language being a big deal. When they're going to break on a route.

(So, my feeling is that Hackett will be playing the slot, so therefore he might have to start the first two games but play the slot if Jarrett can do anything out there)

-Otah: watching film, "Otah has done a fantastic job." Says he's huge, but not fat. Has a mean streak. OL has gelled a bit over the last two weeks.

Arm feels great. Been great since May, just taking it slow. Bothered him through some of 05, all of 06, hurt to warm up. Warms up differently, trains the arm for core a lot more to take care of individual parts of the shoulder and arm.

These announcers are all over the fucking place when asking questions. They cut him off when talking about his arm, then go back and ask him about the arm.

Jake says he didn't know who we played after the first two games. So the Smith thing is on his mind, but he doesn't really look ahead. This in reference to the Favre thing, says he doesn't know Favre. Raved about McCarthy for a second, but says he doesn't know what to think about the situation.

I was cursing him. I was cursing him for not leading game winning drives. Cursing him - LOUDLY - for not taking a timeout.

    Fuckin' a.

"only 243 yards out there today"
    "only 6 yards/attempt"
"only one gamewinning TD versus a very good defense"

Dude, stop trying to start shit. Everyone's glad he completed that last pass, but most people were also saying that he was having a bad game. Ultimately the win is all that matters.

I will take a guy who is not dominant all day but has that magic at the end to pull the game out any time. How many times has Jake won us games with stuff like this? He seemed to lose his mojo in 2006 but maybe he got it back today.
