I was surprised to see that we do have a better running game this year. 4.1 ypa vs. 3.4 ypa. Why do we run the ball 6 times less a game than we did last year? That boggles my mind.

Who is out there that could legitimately challenge him?

Well, then lets get serious about this. Who could we get, and why would you prefer him?

Leftwich? Not a bad quarterback at all. I think he's been shitcanned in Jacksonville for things that aren't his fault. The Jags do not have very good protection, and they decided to compensate by putting in the mobile quarterback. If we could keep him upright, he could have success in our offense.

Who else? Get rid of Weinke and bring in Huard? Seems like the type of quarterback who we would want, and if noting else we would upgrade the back-up spot.

Lets stop dicking around with name-calling and throw out some ideas.

At this point? Almost any competent veteran, as Jake is the absolute worst QB in the league on third downs. As noted, we don't need a guy who will throw for 300 and 3 TDs every week, we need a guy who can convert third downs and move us into scoring position. I fear that Jacksonville will want too much for Leftwich, but Chris Simms would be adequate as long as he doesn't want too much money. Assuming David Carr gets cut, I also think he's been unfairly villified in Houston and would represent a potential upgrade.

I'd be open to all of those. But only if Delhomme stays on the roster and Weinke goes.

    There's a cost issue there.

IMHO - cutting Delhomme would be right up there with cutting Bline as one of the dumbest things the Panthers have ever done.

Beuerlein was still playing well in '00, while Jake is most definitely not playing well right now. Plus we're not talking about going to a Jeff Lewis or rookie 4th rounder.

Jeff Lewis and a rookie 4th rounder is a Jeff Lewis and a rookie 4th rounder more than we've got to go to now :p

We're talking about bringing in someone with actual talent, though. But sure, as for right now and the rest of the season, if Jake is healthy then I play Jake.

For the 501st time: I love the guy...he has all the heart in the world. If I had a daughetr, I'd want her to marry someone just like him.
His skill level is in the middle to bottom tier of the level of his chosen profession. That's not disaparaging, that's objective. Except to someone who is sensitive to any criticism of Jake.

I said, if the Jake fanclub would stop putting words in my mouth and actually READ my posts; Bring someone in here and give them a legitimate opportunity to compete for the job.

I have never said Weinke is the answer, nor defended him vehemently. I said he's no worse than Jake.

"A dog turd is no worse than a cat turd"......in your estimation, I'm 'vehemently defending dog turds'??
