I just wish we had made some moves for our future while he was still a viable starter (last off-season) and let the future understudy with Jake. Unless we believe Matt Moore is the future, if we bring in a future starter now, everyone will be calling for Jake to be benched, and we'll have to throw a virgin to the wolves.

I have been critical of Davidson at various times, but overall I don't have a big problem with him. That said, I completely get what you're saying here. Not only does variety give defenses something extra to worry about, but quite honestly, it makes games more fun to watch. I thought John Shoop (former NFL O.C. in Chicago and Oakland) did that very well with the Tar Heels this season. For instance, they would often bring the flanker around on a running play to give the option of pitching the ball there, which obviously worked a lot better before Brandon Tate was lost for the season. Davidson used Steve Smith in a similar way a couple of times, but that kind of thing is something I'd like to see more often. Even if you're not pitching it to Smith 9 times out of 10, it's one more thing for the defense to worry about.

When's the last time we ran a 5-10 yard out?

When's the last time we ran a 15 yard out?

We can't, because Jake's arm can't cut it. So, by default, we're conceding 20-30% of the field to the defense.

On the other hand, Ryan torched the Cardinals last week with the outs. Not everyone can throw these like Ryan, but you have to be better than what we have.

I really do think his arm wore down around the Oakland game, but I'm not a doctor.

I really don't think his arm is a problem. I imagine we don't run outs because someone doesn't like them, whether it's Davidson, Delhomme, or the receivers. We do tend to be predictable in our routes, and I'm not sure who is to blame with that.

You forget about trading for McCown? I'm not saying he's the guy ( not saying b/c I'm not qualified ), but we gave up a pick for him. I'd say that was a move in the eyes of the front office.

That, like Carr, was a move to get someone with experience because the team was concerned about Jake's health. Honestly there aren't many teams who bring in legitimate veteran challengers to an incumbent starter at quarterback. Both McCown and Delhomme become free agents following the 2009 season.

True...and they have him higher than Moore on the depth chart. That says something (if not about McCown, at least about Moore).

I think his velocity is down, and there's no question his accuracy has gone from suspect to poor. Davidson's not a fucking moron, so he's not going to allow Jake any chance to stare down a 10-15 yard out.

Maybe I'm wrong, and he's just 100% pure-blooded fucking retard.
