I don't have great eyesight, so good work on that. The rest? No. I, like most of the board, think it's hilarious you got so worked up over the internet that you drove so far to get beaten up, but don't think it was smart and don't think it's something we'd do. If you get this angry over someone else's words, that's your problem. I don't really get affected by your highly recycled, anger driven cutdowns.

They cut him early, but when he was the top backup, he got some legitimate cred as a guy who could start. The Panthers felt he was a guy who could upgrade (luckily, they're smart enough not to stand on nonsense like "would" or other definites that aren't definite). He did, so they signed him long term. This is pretty clear.

you're 100% right. You're not arguing against a bunch of other guys who are saying the same things as I am, are you? Everyone's buying into your Billy Mays Any of A Hundred scheme, except me. I know a lot of people are thinking about how great it'd be to have Brody Croyle dumping off every down.

Cassell isn't old, he's not a career journeyman, he's not a guy who was an afterthought coming out of college. He's not a guy who's considered an afterthought directly during or after playing at a decent level like the Hills or the Jamie Martins. There's not much in common there at all. (edit - Hill isn't as old as I thought, but wasn't recruited to go to college and JUCO'd to get to DIV1)

Yes. Brad Johnson, remember? Remember you couldn't get through 10 examples of guys yesterday of players available in the past few years without adding "longshots". Guys who you admit don't even have a good shot of making a team. Most of the others aren't ready or that close to ready, but you expect to have the ability of an 11 year vet.
I dunno. Maybe you like limiting the offense so you can push a young player into duty, but I doubt that's it. You seem to be pretty solidly in the "veteran" camp and yet you have to know by your own list that they aren't just that easy to come by. You listed mostly draftees that wouldn't be ready for a while (and Seneca Wallace, who has two more years just like Croyle, but who has at least shown he can play at this level to a point).

Yes. I defended the fuck out of Lewis. I liked Boller. I liked Losman, too. I'll stand behind why I liked them and I have no problem saying I was wrong. I'll take that over the way you've acted over Delhomme and Carr, but the Carr issue doesn't mean you have an invalid opinion.

The end result is that the 100 players deal isn't something you've even really been able to backup within a 90% error of margin. The end result is that "could" might be believable and "would" simply isn't. Some people want an upgrade, I can't think of anyone willing to risk a very significant downgrade for moderate fiscal responsibility but you.

I certainly wouldn't want the version of Brad Johnson we saw this year (and Johnson had both the luxury of a running game, defense, and numerous Pro Bowl receivers), I certainly wouldn't want a guy who can't beat out a player that was as rough as Johnson was as my "100% guaranteed to be as good starter". I wouldn't want a dumpoff artist like Croyle when we need to get Steve Smith the ball.

I, like most people, would welcome a legitimately better QB, but don't think it's quite so easy to do. Most people would be receptive to sitting a guy like Simms on the bench for a couple of years, though, as would I. See if there's something there, which is a lot different than guarantees of what will happen.

 

Imagine how long this thread would be if the panthers were 4-12.

Bottom line, we've got a good thing going here and I don't want to mess with any of the big parts. This team has chemistry and character. This is a TEAM sport.

I basically stopped reading when Collin made a Britney Spears reference. Collin is starting to scare me.

 

There'd be plenty of reason for change in all forms, I can't say. People wanted to panic at 4-2 this year, FWIW. When Delhomme neared 70% of our offense (on a John Fox team) and made a Pro Bowl, we were having this argument.
