Jake isn't worth a 5 year deal, and we haven't made ANY attempts to find the future QB. THAT's what's stupid. Jake is a QB whose job is to manage the game and not lose, which is fine when you have a great defense, but when you have a suspect D, then the QB has to carry the team. Jakes best days are behind him. He was a mediocre way before the AZ game, and being the best QB in Panthers history isn't really saying much. His downside is way worse than his upside at this stage of his career.
We won't win another PO game while he's starting.

The Super Bowl was 5 years ago. And he didn't just suck in the playoff game. It was probably the worst playoff performance of all time. Saying he's the best QB in Panthers history isn't really saying anything. We've only really had like 4. The Panthers need to draft a QB SEVERELY, and if they don't draft someone in next years draft they need to get someone on the free agent market. They can draft a QB, have him sit behind Jake for a year or two and then play. If Carolina had decent QB play they would've gone to the Super Bowl. Our running game is the best in the league.

Jake doesn't play DL...don't remember him subbing for Lucas or Marshall, either. That contributed to us not going to the Super Bowl more than poor play from Jake.

We were also outcoached, their staff did a great job of game planning, ours not so much

Not so much.....AZ offense doesn't have the ball as much if Jake doesn't throw INTs. It was the worst performance by a playoff QB, without a doubt, and was out of character for any NFL QB....even Jake. So I don't hold that up as an example of how bad or good he is....but he can't carry the team, period.

NOTE:To pretend that Jake's performance didn't take us out of that AZ game is just being stupid.

anywhere I lay my head I'm gonna call my home
more? Probably not. You don't ever really come back from a performance like that.

But, it was one performance, and the D had sucked all the second half of the year.

Obviously our defense needs work. But anyone who thinks the Arizona game is the only time Jake has ever sucked, is either blind or just wearing Jake-tinted glasses. Jake has never been the "man" during any season, we've always had OTHER PLAYERS step up and have great seasons during the years we were successful. Steve Smith has made a highlight reel by saving Jake on 2-3 passes each and every Sunday. Last year coming off TJ surgery, I actually thought Jake did well given the circumstances. However he sucked 2 reg.season games and then the AZ nightmare. I cheer for Jake because he's our only option. But I think given his age and his inconsistencies, I just think 42.5 million dollars is too much, and 5 years is too long.

Hopefully we will have a legitimate QB in here to challenge and (God forbid) take over this team, sometime before the next 5 years is up.

Who is saying that? I agree Jake killed us in the AZ game. Shameful performance. But give him credit, he led into the playoffs and overcame a pretty tough schedule to boot.

I still think we need to look at defense during this draft, rather than a quarterback prospect as several has suggested. Defense hurt us throughout the latter part of the season more than Jake hurt us, IMHO.

Wasn't ours one of the easiest schedules by record?

    Pretty tough schedule, nonetheless.
