    Boot into safe mode to run defrag.

    Two ways:

    Hold down the 'CTRL' key as your PC boots up. Don't do it too early or it will think you have a keyboard problem.

    or

    When you see 'Starting Windows 9x...' at the top of the screen, press F8.

    Either way will result in a menu, where you can select 'Safe Mode'. I think it's the 3rd option.

    I notice a faster response on my pc when I defrag and delete all my cookies and temporary internet files. When all you have is dialup you do what you can
