When was the last time you had a physical? You should probably go to your dr., let him run some tests, and then tell you HEY you need medicine.

Full Blown physical? Maybe 3 years back. I have been watching the numbers and it has been 138-160/ 78-98 for the last 6 months. Having just turned 46 I am thinking of getting a full blown physical and maybe even a stress test. My family tells me I favor my grandfather. He had a heart attack at 56 and another at 63, He died shortly there after. Granted this was 30+ years back and my cholesterol is around 160 (with meds) and up until the last year my blood pressure has never been more than 126/78 and my pulse is routinely around 65-70

Paul, my BP runs 130/82 at the doctor's office. Depending on where you get it checked, OTC meds you may be taking and so on will affect it. 3 Heart attcks in my immediate family, one Stroke 2 ended in death. Mom was 56, my grandfather was 66.

It's just my opinion, but even if one is pre-disposed to heart disease-I would change a few things in my daily routine before considering meds. Of course your doc knows best. Best of luck to you.

Why don't you ask your doctor instead of an internet message board?

I just got back from the doctor and yes I am a candidate for BP meds. He is taking me off the Lipator and replacing it with a combo Lipator and BP medicine (starts with a "C" Centrix?)

So life style changes are in order.
    • I don't use much salt but I can cut it out what little I use
    • No more fried foods or at least minimize them
    • I maybe drink a 12 pack in a 2 week period so I am going to leave that alone
    • Lose weight (Fred for all the needling I do you I need to shed some lbs as well)
    • exercise more than climbing my stairs at night

I guarantee my elevated BP is 70% due to my job but that is just part of life

I'm glad you are getting some treatment. Considering my age, my doctor ignores my bp. Just from experience sometimes the meds, can make you a bit queasy- Good luck Paul, stress sucks, and eliminating it from our lives seems impossible.

This is what is so unbelievable to me. First time heart attacks are more deadly for women than men. Not to mention that they are a leading killer of women. Yet doctors still seem to ignore the needs and warnings signs of women. :banginghe
