Defensive player of the half-year: Baltimore won its past two games because Ray Lewis stepped up and made a game-turning interception. The Patriots' Rodney Harrison and the Colts' Dwight Freeney are players you can count on as well. But in a close call, I give the nod to Carolina defensive end Mike Rucker, whose 10 sacks lead the league and make up more than half of the Panthers' 19 sacks. And Rucker's game is about more than just chasing down the quarterback.

I'd have to give the nod to Steve Smith. He personally stopped the Panthers in their tracks on a potential go ahead scoring drive against the Texans.
