I'm sure Fred or Plu will be able to answer this, but hats off to anyone else who may be able to as well. Something came to mind when I read Riddel's thread about him not reading the prescription directions right and taking too many decongestants. My doc already has me on Allegra-D but also had me start taking Sudafed on Monday. (Allergy flare up plus fluid on one of my ears) I've noticed that I am jittery, and even though I'm pretty much exhausted, I wake up in the middle of the night wide awake for no reason (hence the reason I was posting at 2:30 my time last night). Am I possibly taking too much??

So you are taking Allegra-D & Sudafed??

Allegra-D 12 hour has 120mg of pseudoephedrine in it. 24 hour has 240mg. ANd you're adding a 30mg, no-time release capsule to that? I can barely tolerate the 120s & 240s, even though they are slow-release.

I'm amazed you can sleep at all. I'm not a doctor, but either yours is nuts or you possibly misunderstood him.

I usually take them in the morning (around 9am) and then again right before bedtime. I tried taking the Sudafed again during the day, but it got me really jittery, so I stopped taking it during the day itself. My allergies haven't bothered me since I started taking both of them - actually I'm pretty dried up nose/sinus wise, but I know the ear hasnt' drained since I still feel pressure (no pain though). I see my doctor (actually it's a nurse practicioner lady) on Tuesday again, so maybe I'll have her check out the ear if things haven't gotten better. Probably doesn't help that I'll be out in the dust again this weekend for a total of 11 softball games.

    That sucks. Guaifenisin is wonderful.

Although for some reason, certain dosages of it make me completely loopy. Dunno why.

a pharmicist told me once that there is actually only one form of decongestant available over the counter and behind the counter. It is pseudoephedrine! and although its know by many many brand names its all the same. Take the time to read the active ingredients of any OTC drugs you take.
