Because he worked for Cowher and because he had some 34 background earlier in his coaching career. Everywhere else (NO and STL) he's run a 43.

So he can run either defense.

In theory, yes. In reality though, whenever Haslett has been the guy "in charge", he's run a 43. John Fox is a 43 guy. The odds of both of them suddenly deciding to switch to a 34 are pretty slim.

Agreed but there are lot of hybrid defenses out there that run some 3-4 stuff at times in addition to a base 4-3. Maybe that type of change would help make Peppers want to stay. Letting Peppers line up at linebacker from time to time would not kill our defense regardless of its base alignment.

We don't have the personnel. Our ends are not suited to a 34. Our linebackers are not suited to a 34. There are even differences in secondary play that might not accommodate the players we currently have. The best thing you can say about it is that Beason and Davis might be ok inside, and maybe Lewis and Kemo can be 34 ends, but that still leaves you with one big-ass problem: You don't have a nose tackle. Look at the successful 34 teams. Pittsburgh has Casey Hampton. San Diego has Jamal Williams. New England has Wilfork. Baltimore, though they are multiple, can successfully play a 34 because of Ngata. You need an outstanding nose tackle before you can even consider playing a HYBRID defense, let alone going to a complete 34 alignment.

It's an issue of personnel. That's what you have to understand. Even Dom still used a lot of 43 in Jacksonville, because that's what they were best suited for, and he'll probably use some 43 in Green Bay. If Bill Cowher were hired as our HC today, he would probably use a lot of 43 in 2009. Completely changing your scheme is one of the dumbest things a coaching staff can do.

That's why I insult Thelt. When you don't shove his stupidity into his face, he just keeps repeating the same retarded sentiment over and over again, no matter how many times you explain why he's wrong.

You are wrong Collin! The reason you insult people is because you can sit behind the keyboard and be a total asshole knowing there is nothing they can do about it. You turn every post into a pissing contest. I for one am sick of your tired old bullshit. I have never encountered a human being as totally miserable as you. Your life must be really shit.

Four out of your last five posts have been about me, which is odd for someone who claims to be sick of me. How about you get a life and actually start posting contributions to the board, then maybe someone will give a damn what you think. Or you can just sit in the corner and stay quiet, I don't really care which.

He'll run what Fox tells him to run. I'd be very surprised if we did change scheme or had a reason to do so.

would be kind of sweet to see some big names coaching the defense... if the ego's can handle it... and of course it would be short lived, but to get guys in here that's been there done that just to try to get that ring next year... it'd be prety sweet. Be even sweeter to do it without Peppers.
