The DC Council altered the financing deal last night. That kills the deal.

Anyone got a few hundred million?

I've never believed the public should be doing the majority of the financing of these things. If this kills the deal then maybe DC is better off.

Linda Cropp is a crock of ****  . . . . She is just trying to kotow to the anti-Stadium folks in the city . . . This move where half the cost of a new stadium must be raised from private financing allows her to kill the stadium deal without having her fingerprints on the murder weapon. Who is going to come up with the $279 million (?) to help pay for a public ballpark  ? ? Already, the planned unveiling of the team's uniforms was cancelled today, if I read correctly . . .

DC Stadium deal in Jeopardy w/Late Amendment ? ?

exactly. People pay with tax money, while the people that run the team make money off of it. Dont buy a fucking professional team if you cant pay for a stadium for them.

But the thing is, the money is coming from a new tax that will be taxing business only . . . Its not coming out of their general revenues (i.e. property taxes) . . .

If DC screws this up, once again their reputation (which has been changing over the last few years) as a city that can't get anything done. They blew a chance to keep the Redskins within the city limits I'm sure due to similar bickering (i.e. 'We can't afford' , 'We shouldn't be subsidizing millionaire athletes/billionaire owners' , 'Schools/services are underfunded' etc.) a decade ago . ;. . . . That area of land they want to build the ballpark on will stay rundown 10 years from now vs. being the center piece of a revival in that part of town . . . .
