That has got to suck. Go undefeated in your conference, lose one game in your conference tournament, and have to go to the NIT. :thud:

    Heartbreaker

Anyone that's ever followed Davidson basketball since Lefty Dreisell left knows how this team can break your heart, especially in the in the SoCo tourney when they are heavy favorites.

Curiously enough, the better team may have won this game. The 'Cats pulled the same stunt in 1996, going undefeated in conference play, getting votes for the Top 25, and then losing to a hot Western Carolina on ESPN in the SoCo finals in what looked like a HUGE upset........it wasn't.
Western entered the NCAAs as a #16 seed against #1 Purdue. Only a 3-point miss at the buzzer by WC's Joel Fleming (West Rowan grad) prevented Western Carolina from being the only #16 seed to defeat a #1 seed in NCAA history.

UNC-G sported a decent RPI early in the season. Tonight's game against the home-crowd favorite Tenn-Chattanooga Mocs should show if UNCG is for real.

Sorry again, Davidson........I'll drown my sorrows pulling for the 'HEELS, 49ers, DEACONS, BLUE DEVILS, WINTHROP EAGLES and the GARDNER-WEBB BULLDOGS.

Maybe the 'Cats will face NC State in the NIT.

Yeah but Tennessee's not that good. Neither is Creighton who beat UTC by 32 a couple of weeks ago (Davidson beat UTC by 14).

A pretty undeserving Big Dance entrant. Someone will blow them out big time in the first round. (unless they pull a '96 Catamount on us)

At least a football-playing member of the conference won the thing.
