Name anyone that would boost attendance and tv ratings more than Danica.

I think he was just trying to say that if NASCAR has to create a sideshow to hold its fans interest, it is already in pretty deep trouble.

I think that NASCAR has been forced to make some decisions during the off-season (not easy, they are a stubborn group). The modified restrictor plate and basically erasing the rules against bump drafting for the Pothole 500 showed that.

the amount of airtime she got on saturday was sickening. it was worse than Tim Tebow and Tyler Hansbro combined. there was also another woman racing that day, who knew?

    Chrissy Wallace?
    a) wrecked 1st or 2nd lap
    b) blamed it on a more "veteran" driver
    c) sounded like a brat
    d) looked like a cow (I know, not very nice, but true)

during their meteroic climb in ratings, NASCAR began trying to shed its image of the past, rednecks, southern tracks, blue collar everything. they sought a different fan base, new image, west west. now, during these tough times, after the honeymoon with their new fan base, they are paying the price, literally. they went away from the "ones who brung them to the dance". those cookie cutter 1.5 mile frying pans they're racing on these days make for boring races. nobody wants to watch that. i've even heard talk of kansas city hosting a second race....all because they're building a new casino near that shitty race track. i guess they'll ditch martinsville or some other track around here to make room on the schedule. the car of tomorrow is a huge mistake too. wtf is up with that shit?

dont get me wrong, i love racing but this new crowd has fucked it up. if they want to regain some of the interest they need to get back to basics and return to their true fan base. it doesnt have anything to do with rules or race times or any of that other bullshit they trying to pass off as "change".

    NASCAR come home!

    lol at me :uhoh2:

One of the things that has lost me is the cookie cutter drivers that go along on the cookie cutter tracks. As a fan, I loved being able to follow a guy as his career progressed. Short track hotshot comes in the Bush series for a few years, then gets a low end Cup ride. Watching a guy progress from a privateer outfit to a "Bud Moore" level ride, then on up to a good ride was part of the fun.

Nothing against the Joey Logano's of the world, but I don't give a rat's ass about some 19 year old who gets a top Cup ride because he's marketable. I want to see guys who can fuckin' drive.

If I could change the rules in Cup it would be to do away with power steering and bring back bias ply tires. Fuck the midgets.
