Overpaying for a guy is a relative thing with a cap that keeps increasing. What seemed too much today may not in two years. It is basically going to come down to what they do on the field. To me you define overpaying by comparing dollars paid to production. By that standard we might have overpaid for Foster and Morgan but it seems unlikely that we did for Keyshawn.

I would however like to point out that some of them DID work for the 49ers and Titans. How'd that work out?

It certainly did come to mind.
Undoubtedly, it's a lot of money - with high bust potential. And yeah, we did spend a ton one year after letting a FA go. James and Howard did get replaced by bigtime contracts, and now Moose. We've brought in and will keep bringing in safeties after Grant.

James and Howrd's replacements costs alot more than James and howard (and are better).

Key was about half of Moose - particularly the first 2 years. And Grant hasn't been all that - I can't really say he's been better than our scabs for him.

Seriously, there are a few guys here who clearly know their stuff. I won't pretend to know what I don't. What I do know is that anyone involved in the decision making process for any NFL team is more qualified than anyone who has time to post on a message board all day.

More qualified maybe but certainly not infallible. They screw up all the time.

    Not infallible at all.

Point is: Carl Peterson, or Thelt?

I know there are some less than average execs out there. But even the worst of those are twice as qualified as any of us...Believe it.

That is true but it does not mean that someone on here can not point out when they are screwing up and be right about it.

Hindsight is always 20/20. It makes for nice fodder, but it sure is easy to sit back throw stones at these folks, particulalry for those who are nowhere near qualified to even begin to know what they are criticizing.
