honestly, i think this is a little bit of "hey! why the fuck is this guy getting so much fricken money for an idea that we had!?" it's pretty obvious that the da vinci code is a lift of the holy blood holy grail book. of course, those guys presented their book as non-fiction which sort of implies that it's true history. i don't see how you can sue somebody for writing about what you believe is the actual facts. not that they are the facts, but that's how they're presented.

if they'd published as fiction, then they'd have a stronger case.

It's been 2+ years since I read it, but I distinctly remember Brown giving these guys all due cred for the "historical" basis for his book. HB,HG was referenced all over the footnotes, and in the forward or a post note...

Yeah, I think they're whining quite a bit.

All of this hubbub is going to sour me on what was a fun, but not earth shattering dose of escapism. After you read Angels & Demons, you realize that Brown had already written a religious thriller, and done it better.

still, the movie is going to be huge and i doubt the movie has footnotes. could you imagine if you came up with an idea and somebody ran with it and turned it into a huge franchise? even if they put footnotes in the thing that referenced your work, after a while (and a few hundred million dollars) you might start to ask for a little something more than a few footnotes.

I read both of them and quite frankly one was a page turner and the other was an exercise in staying awake, even though the source material was interesting.

no doubt. i started reading holy blood holy grail, but gave up after a while. still, the idea is there. the da vinci code is presented thru a narrative which will always be more entertaining than a psuedo academic text.

i think they just want to make sure people give them some sort of props so maybe they can cash in on their next book deal.
