I bought a bicycle in June and started riding every day. Last week I started riding to work and catching a ride home. The trip is 20.1 miles and it takes me about 2 hours and 20 minutes (average). It has definitely been worth it as my blood pressure has dropped, my resting heart rate is down from 100 bpm to 65 bpm and my weight has dropped from 212 to 180 lbs. But I have noticed that my right hand goes numb on the longer trips. Does anybody have any idea what's going on?

It could be a couple of things but you probably need to ask your Doc about it just to be safe. Sounds like a small disc where you are holding your neck in a certain position too long mayyybe.

    Just maybe. Ask a doc.

Hand numbing is usually a sign of leaning too far forward on your bars. You may want to adjust your seatpost down a hair. If your seatpost is at the right height (slight bend of the knees at the bottommost position) then you may need a shorter stem. Also, depending on the bike, you could improve the grips. I use Ergon GP-1s on my Niner single speed...good comfort. http://www.ergon-bike.com/us/grips/index.html?WYSESSID=huptvihg972tmhmkne7076ta63

I figured out (with a little help from the bike shop in Rock Hill) that my seat nose was tilted down too much which cause me to support too much of my weight with my arms.

Galethog's stem can't get much shorter or it will be mistaken for a belly button.

What kind of work do you do? I would have a hard time coming to the office that way and still look presentable.
