Brother he has had a thousand less carries than Clinton Portis at the same age roughly, correct?

DW has had only 1,170 carries in his career.

Let me research this a little more. I'm not sure the average a starting back gets a season....but if I have to eat crow I will, but I don't think I will, dude.

And has he had near the carries as those backs on your list?

    I doubt it.

He has gaudy numbers for the limited time he's played. DeAngelo is a baller. I'm not sure why so many write him off as easily as they do. He's our best back on the roster.

Why can't you just fucking accept the truth about the position? Jesus Christ, this isn't even a debate. 30 is Jurassic for an NFL running back. It's very rudimentary stuff. Even gay men who don't watch football probably know that.

Portis was the primary ball carrier in his carrier. Sure DeAngelo could split carries with someone but he will never get large coin for someone. But after 30 the hits are going to hurt a shit load more and sap his energy out to the point where even at vet minimum (higher for him verses a 23 year old) no one will want him

Bottom line while having fewer carries means he might have a little more spring in his step, actually he'll be less likely to get hurt*, he'll still be older and losing that element of speed/quickness at high rate. We couldn't for example trade for Calvin Johnson and not play him for four years and keep him playing four years longer at the back end. The clock is always running in San Dimas

    *I'd imagine

Good god, cut that shit out, man.

I hate it when clowns here always quote someone and say THIS. Nothing personal, pp.

Back to the point, this isn't about accepting the truth about the position, and it isn't about acting like fucking Jack goddamn Nicholson in Tom Cruise's fucking JAG movie. It's about whether DeAngelo will be out of the league at 34/whether he has good years left at this age.

Steven Jackson had 2395 carries in the same timeframe. That minus DeAngelo's carries is a 1,225 carry difference!

That is almost half of a RB's career span of carries!!!

DeAngelo Williams is NOT SLOWING DOWN. IF HE IS ALL OF OUR RBS ARE BECAUSE THE WHOLE GODDAMN RUNNING GAME STALLED OUT. And he turned it on at the end of the season last year and he did not look slow.

Teams will fucking PLAY him if he's productive, and I guess that depends on the team he signs with, but my guess is he will play for a while longer and be very very good.

Maybe I was wrong about when he will quit, because history favors against me here handedly. But the whole point was, I wish he'd play here for a while longer, because he's got a shit ton to offer still. THat does not change.

Ok, so ultimately I'm probably going to be wrong about when he hangs it up. I conceded to that posts ago.

It does not change the fact that I wish DeAngelo would play for the Panthers for 3-4 more years, and that I think another team will get rewarded.

But I mean, if Barner and Stew play well and we win, I don't give two fucks who's carrying the rock honestly. But I've always like DW, and I've always been perplexed why people say he's getting old and slowing down. I guess he is getting old. By years. But slowing down? Not even a little yet.

And I imagine that players start losing all that speed because they take so many shots, especially running backs.

SMitty is still pretty goddamn fast.

Again, there aren't any god damn 34 year old running backs around, so thinking he'll actually be in the league in four years is ridiculous. Fred Taylor and Kevin Faulk had very limited roles at that age, but that's it. Even if DeAngelo can still contribute by then, those guys get replaced by younger players.

Right now, there are only 22 running backs in the NFL older than 29, and only 13 of them have a job. A few more are likely to be cut after June 1st. It's the motherfucking nature of the god damn position. There's no debating that.
