Lets see if I have this figured out right . . .

    1) Cubs want to add more blecher seats to Wrigley Field (2000 +/-)

    2) The apartment owners across the street bitch about it, saying that its going to obstruct their view of the game (but if I remember the rederings correctly, it wouldn't really: The bleachers would be extended right below the roof line, which would only obstruct the view if you were watching the game from one of the apartments blow the roof). Sooooooooooooo, they take the Cubs to court.

    3) Now, the Cubs and the Apartment owners have reached an agreement where the apartment owners will turn over a percentage of their revenue (17&) to the team for the next 20 years. I didn't realize that the apartment owners were charging admission for folks to watch the game from the rooftops  ?

THE BOTTOM LINE: Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, why are the apartment owners agreeing to pay the Cubs money to (in effect) watch the games from their own private property, which is outside of the WRIGLEY FIELD boundaries  ? If the Cubs want the extra revenue, why not just set up turnstiles on WAVELAND AVE. behind the ballpark and charge folks admission to stand outside on the street, like they do now  ? ? ? I understand the tradition aspect, which is cool :) . But the apartment owners need to realize that the Cubs, if they really wanted to, could just put up a big green screen behind the bleachers and tell all the apartment owners to come into the ballpark and watch the game; They really don't have a right to watch the games from the rooftop for free!!! If the Apartment owners are charging residents to be able to watch the game from the rooftops, that's cool since that's their property.

the apartment owners were charging people to watch from their roofs..they even put advertising on them, so yes they were basically stealing money from the cubs and bitching about it.

The thing is, those rooftoops belonged to the Apartment Owners, not the Cubs. If the Cubs feel cheated out of not getting the revenue, why not just buy all of those apartments then and collect the revenues themsleves?

Or better yet, put up more ads in WRIGLEY   ? ? I don't think there is one ad sign in that ballpark. Why? Since the team owns it (i.e. private property) they can put ads up all over the place if they wanted to, right? Its a small ballpark, but they could put up some ads in there if they wanted to (scoreboard, behind the backstop, bullpen rooftime, auxliary scoreboards). hell, that would be the perfect ballpark to put those new dot matrix ribbonboards (RBC Center in Raleigh has them, plus many other ballparks/coliseums).

well the people around the stadium seem to think they own it. They didn't like the fence being put up, and they also don't like the cubs playing many night games.

Wellllllllllllllll, the Cubs could always build a new ballpark in the burbs and tear Wrigley down and then watch their property values sink like the Titanic  !!!!!!

THE BOTTOM LINE: The only reason the apartment owners are bitching about the ballpark expansion is that their free view of the games would be over (according to them; again, based on what I'm seeing from the renderings you could still see the games from the rooftops). I'm sure they made a killing during the playoffs with all them folks partying on SHEFFIELD & WAVELAND AVE. They are mad simply because the expansion will put money in their pocket and take it away from them!!!!
