This is why I was telling you not to go apeshit over every rumor. 99.9% of them never come to fruition.

Sorry for being excited that my team was rumored to be signing one of the premier 2nd basemen in the league. I still think it would be a great move for the cubs to get him, but if we don't thats ok. The talks are still in progress, so we'll see.

You don't have to apologize for being excited about the possibility. What makes you a complete moron is you thinking that because you heard a rumor on the radio or read it online that it's somehow true. You embarrass yourself when you take things like the Carl Crawford rumor and simply assume that it's correct, especially when in that case it was pretty obviously ludicrous to begin with.

So again, it's fine to be excited and it's fine to discuss the possibilities, but try not to be a moron in assuming these things to be true. Treat them like the rumors they are.

Well, the cubs were interested in crawford, but didn't want to give what the rays were asking. The cubs are still interested in Roberts. So, yes, it is a trade rumor and it is a TRUE trade rumor. By talking about it, I'm not saying that it has or will happen, i simply hope that it does.

It looks as if the talks may have been increasing in the past week between the Cubs and Orioles. Now it seems to include both Roberts and Bedard, for a slew of prospects. Let me make this clear in saying that I DON'T KNOW IF THIS DEAL WILL GO THROUGH. But, I think that it is certainly a possibility and am glad to see that the rumor won't go away. Usually when rumors refuse to die, it means that there is some truth to it.

There is no truth to the Cubs getting both Bedard and Roberts. They don't have remotely enough prospects to do that. In fact, they don't have good enough prospects to even match what other teams are offering for just Bedard. Roberts, on the other hand, remains a distinct possibility. If something happens, I imagine it will be after they move Bedard to someone else.

that, I agree with you on. It looks like bedard is going to go to Seattle. To be real honest, I don't know if I want to give up Pie and Gallagher for Roberts. Pie isn't one of my favorites, but I think Gallagher has a bright future for the organization. Not to mention, we had a tough time last year when we had no true center fielder. With Derosa, who is a solid second baseman with a decent bat, Roberts isn't really a priority. The things that I like about Roberts are #1 his speed, and #2 left handed stick.

    Cubs/Brian Roberts Update

Buster Olney has the latest on the Cubs' talks to acquire second baseman Brian Roberts. According to Olney:
Sources involved in Baltimore's trade talks with Chicago expressed confidence that at some point, the Orioles and Cubs will finish the proposed Brian Roberts deal.
Olney says Sean Gallagher would be the centerpiece of the deal. On February 3rd, ESPN's Jayson Stark said Gallagher or Sean Marshall would be included, but beyond that nothing has been decided.

this was as of this morning. I know that some people are probably tired of me talking about this trade, but I can't help but be excited about it.

Roberts seemed like a great guy when I met him at spring training, but as an Orioles fan I'm not that concerned about losing him. I don't see where he's a huge upgrade for the Cubs, but I guess you can never have too many solid players who are also good in the clubhouse.

Just another update for anyone that is keeping up with this..

    ESPN's Buster Olney:
I've heard that Andy MacPhail is very much in favor of the notion of dealing Roberts to the Cubs, for the right price.
Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun quotes MacPhail as calling the Roberts situation a "logical question that will come next." Trading him now certainly fits into MacPhail's all-out rebuilding plan; he's their last valuable veteran commodity. Talks with the Cubs are expected to drag into spring as the teams decide which young pitchers and outfielders make sense, if any. Zrebiec cautions that the O's might keep Roberts for now and trade him in July, though.
Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune notes that people close to Roberts say he'd waive his no-trade clause to come to Chicago. His salary would not pose a payroll problem for the Cubs, and Jim Hendry has approval to add a few more players before camp.
