    hell, i'm not saying he'd play for free. I'm just saying that he is willing to take a little bit less to remain a cub.

    I'm not entirely sure about that. Given how bad the Zito contract looks already, I'm not confident that Zambrano would have gotten that sixth or seventh year. One of the problems is that insurance companies refuse to cover pitching contracts of more than five years in length, which is why you so rarely see them anymore. I think CZ got about as much as he could have, but it could still end up being a solid deal for the Cubs. They obviously couldn't afford to lose him.
