    KORDELL EYES CAROLINA

A league source tells us that Steelers quarterback Kordell Stewart hopes to land with the Carolina Panthers in 2003, if he doesn't remain with Pittsburgh.

According to the source, Stewart is openly talking about the possibility of heading to Charlotte. He likes the climate and he likes the city, and we all know that the Panthers need lots of help at the quarterback position.

Stewart is under contract for one more season with the Steelers, but with a high cap number. Earlier in the season, his departure was a done deal. Since then, however, the team quietly has indicated a desire to keep Kordell, if he'll accept backup-level pay.

Also, if Kordell goes, look for third-stringer Charlie Batch to stay -- if he moves to Number 2 on the chart behind Tommy Maddox. Batch wants to stay in Pittsburgh, and he suspects that he'll get a chance to play at some point in 2003, since he regards Maddox as fragile (and in our view the oft-injured Batch would know fragile when he sees fragile).

I'll take him. Get a rookie (not first round), resign Peete cheap, send Fasani to NFL Europe.

    An idea.

    The Bus is getting old.

Give them Foster for Stewart. Let their docs look him over.

    Draft Larry Johnson.

We dont want to trade for him or we inherit his high cap #. Only consider this if he gets released. He would be making backup pay at Pittsburg to stay. He could come here for a little more. i wouldn't want him for his current contract though.

Pitt has Zeroue and Mufula-myassa so probably wouldn't want Foster anyway.

I wouldn't mind Kordell Stewart and Larry Johnson. Take best QB or WR in round 2 and 3.

Then sign Peerless Price or Lavernous Coles.

I have trouble seeing Fox wanting Kordell with his turnover problems - but the guy looked awesome a few years ago and can play in a simplified offense IMO. He is inconsistent as a passer but in a running offense could be ok.

Agree Slydevil. We don't give up Foster or anyone else for Kordell. It's strickly as a released FA. I wouldn't even give up a pick for him and take his salary. Good call Sly.

I don't see Fox drafting a 1st round QB. If he does, then the draft pick will sit the bench for atleast a year behind Peete. But, I don't see Fox waiting to succeed on offense. I am sure he will go after a difference making with the 1st, 2nd and possibly third pick, then he will pick up a Qb. Maybe Gesser or Banks or whoever, but why waste a number one on a Harrigton or Carr? Makes no sense when you see what a Peppers, Tomlinson or Stallworth can do.

STEWART WOULD INT US TO DEATH!

NO. He's too damn risky with the ball. What are the chances that he ever has a good TD to INT ratio?

Kordell had his best year when the Bus ran the ball. Too many ??'s about the Bus to start the season, too much was put on Kordell to carry that team. Maddox came in, running game stepped up, and there you go.

Kordell is a more capable QB than we have now. He's got mobility to make up some for lack of pass protection. If he has a solid ground game supporting him (which is Fox's plan) then he'd be great for this team.

Plus Kordell is a solid character. He's withstood a great deal in Pittsburgh. Sometimes a change of scenery is all a player needs to have greater success. I'd take him. I would trade for him and I'd still draft Palmer.

He will make 6.3 million next season. We could Pro-rate that. That's not really that bad at all, looking at what other guys are making. Pitt will probably treat him like Bledsoe, and not just release him, but demand compensation. With the FA market looking shitty, they may be able to get something. I don't expect it to be a first rounder or anything crazy like that.

Here's to hoping they release him though.

Stewart needs a talented team around him in order to function, he couldn't do what peete has done, we already have a weinke we don't need another. The guy got beat out by tommy madox why would we want him here?

Stewart's been at his worst when a coordinator makes him to what they want him to do. Granted, if given more than a year of free reign he becomes predictable, but neither of those fits at all well here.
