I've been trying to find a light weight crock pot for my parents. The standard ones you see at Walmart etc. all have the heavy ceramic pot that comes out. With my parent's age/arthritis its just to heavy for them to handle. They have trouble trying to wash it and even just lifting it is difficult for them anymore.

They use to make lighter weight ones. Anybody see them anymore?

I thought the whole concept of a "crock" pot is to use a ceramic "crock"? I've never seen another type....

I'm in love with ours but it does weight a lot. It kicks my butt sometimes but I use it weekly.

I've got one my mom gave to me when I was in college. It was a wedding gift for her when she married my dad many moons ago. The damn thing is over 40 years old and still cooks very well. We bought a new one last year just because it was bigger but have only used it once. We went back to old reliable.

I used to have one like that until I had a storage unit when I was moving all around and the roof leaked. It was ruined. My mom has a waffle maker that is nearly 40 years old and it makes some of the best waffles EVER! Seems like the old ones were made with some quailty.
