    Safety and special teams standout Jarrod Cooper was released by the Carolina Panthers on Thursday.


    Coach John Fox would not comment on the move, other than to say it was done with the best interest of the Panthers in mind. The team signed wide receiver Micah Ross to fill Cooper's roster spot.


    Cooper has had off-the-field problems before. He was suspended for four games last season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He also had an arrest for driving under the influence.

    Sounds like drugs. Seems most likely. He was playing well, I thought.

    He didn't have a future here - UFA, with Minter UFA after 2005. We were negotiating with Minter, but that went nowhere, maybe some legit changes are coming at SS next year after we got smoked for the 20th time by the TE.
