I THINK it could mean, she doesn't go to church because when she goes, she gets convicted of what's wrong in her life.
But maybe S-NUT is right about the dictionary.

maybe that is right but what does that mean? what does it mean when you say "she gets convicted of what's wrong in her life"?

My aunt says this about her aunt cause her aunt cries a lot when she goes to church. But i think she don't go ALL the time because she is a nurse and works on sundays sometimes. I said maybe she cries cause the preacher has said something that has touched her heart but she said "no, she's under conviction". whatever.

she must be using it to mean guilt. i guess it can be used that way, but i think that's generally more in a legal sense.
