It's good to see that the negotiations have begun. The last thing both the Panthers and Peppers need is a holdout.

If you cut off the last assumptive paragraph by the reporter, my guess is they are having preliminary contract talks with all 3 players to get a feel in advance for how difficult / easy it will be to bring closure... I believe Fox when he says they have bounced around on it - I think that second pick is a difficult place for us to be this year...

Maybe if Morgan has a great year and whoever they pick here at #2 then we can finally get that first round pick monkey off our back..

Well if the thought was to keep a poker face we failed. I'd have at least waited until tomorrow to see what might develop.

I don't think FOX has tried to do the Poker Face at all - I just think, its a tuff choice. If we do draft Peppers most of you will say it is the obvious choice, but I think if you asked the men running the organization (and me :D ), including our new head coach, they will tell you, the choice was not that easy...

Its still not to late to trade the pick... :drums:

I don't think it was obvious to them. These are new hires, they've had to rush to get a draft board together. I mean, I'd rather do it this way than just take the best QB, which is what the Texans did.

I'm sure that that when Hurney and Fox said that Peppers and Jammer were a close 1 and 2, they meant it. From this, and their comments on the Panther page, it's obvioius that Peppers is #1. That may be the consensous beforehand, but I feel a lot better about it that they went through this proccess to reach that conclusion.

Good thoughts but I don't think it had anything to do with them being new. After all, one would think they (FOX and Assistants) have more experience looking at Talent than some Joe Blow reporter in the morning fish wrapper. To me the odds of Peppers, Jammer, Harrington being a Pro Bowl player are pretty equal at this point. Its a tuff call for anyone, regardless of experience.

Not at all what I was saying. It's a new staff, and that's always harder. Hurney has been around, but a lot of our scouting deptartment must be new. One of my complaints under Seifert was our in season scouting was fairly non existant, making the staff scramble, which lead to a lot of what I'd call "workout" picks because the scouts haven't done their job.

With a semi-new staff, it's even more difficult. Hopefully under Fox, the scouting will be better throughout the season. I hate it when I hear about a scout from this team looking at this player, but never a Panther scout.

In summary, a harder than other incumbent NFL STAFFS WITH STRONG SCOUTING DEPARTMENTS.

I hate yelling, but when your trying to get through the 6 inches of lead Sandy calls a skull, it's hard to know you are being heard.
