  1. Is it a problem if the computer sits directly on the carpet? I'm asking because of static electricity or whatever its called.

I wouldn't leave it there long term. Find something to put underneath it. Probably not a problem though.

But not in the bathroom, static would be the least of the problems

You can buy little computer stands that will take care of any worries of static or dust. about $10. That should help.

As long as the computer is plugged in there shouldn't be any problem with static at all. Static only becomes a problem when the computer is not grounded. No one ever does it anymore but when you open up the case you should wear a wrist ground stap cliipped to the computer and the computer plugged in or on a ground pad.

No doubt, easiest way to totally screw up a computer. Keep touching the case to take static off of you

Actually touching the case to remove static does nothing to remove static. Powder paint is nolonger conductive once it is cured and the plastic does not conduct electricity. you need to touch an exposed screw or chassis to remove static. My switchbox has an ESD touch plate on it. But touching the case does not discharge you as a matter of fact if you rub the case you may pick up a charge. To remove static you have to ground yourself.

It's always good be well grounded, well except during lightening storms.

The only thing I've ever seen corrupt from static is a floppy disk, and that we did on purpose to see if we could. It took three tries of rubbing our feet, pulling back the cover, and touching the film (or whatever it is) . Other than that, I've never had a problem.

I would recommend though, I took a scrap piece of Pergo flooring and screwed little wheels to the bottom (like from a stereo cab) and put my computer on that on the floor. That way your not dragging it everytime.
