Booo, Y2. You just gotta know what you're doing, and if you don't know what you're doing, then you buy a cheap-ass computer for which you don't mind losing the data if something screws up. It's not like something can break just by plugging stuff in.

It's a great project. Anybody that does it once will wonder why they worried so much about it.

Well if that's the case, then great. The tech guy here at work has a room full of computer parts that are basically out dated and useless. For me, I would love to in there find what works and build what I could for people that don't have a computer to help get them started. I've rebuilt, swapped out, and upgraded, but never built. Should be great fun, just don't lose any hair over it:D

What can of budget do you have? If I was to build one, there are a couple of features I would want.
    DVD-R/CD-RW Combo drive
    Seperate DVD/CD Reader ofcourse
    Firewire (atleast 4 ports)
    Gigabit Networking
    6:1 Surround Sound
    and TV/Video/S-Video input

No...mine came to me from a very unreliable source here in Charlotte and I have monkeyed with it til it's almost too much. I'm trying to push it beyond it's limits, but when it works, I can't see spending more money just to replace something I only use for internet surfing and pictures and mp3's.

You can also buy stuff at Slayton but they're not really cheap.
