Any collectors or readers here? I left the hobby about 15 years ago but my 10 year old daughter is getting interested in them and I find myself checking them out again.

Anyway, any suggestions for good Costume books for a 10 year old? How bout for a 42 year old? :D

I was big into the UnCanny XMen, Spiderman, Spawn, Gen13, Ghost Rider, etc.

Image comics is a good place to start...

For a 10 year old girl? Maybe PowerPuff Girls...I know they put out a bunch of comics from Cartoon Newtwork.....The Simpsons puts out a monthly book....unfortunately the comic book industry is geared towards boys/men...as the person who runs a local shop, they would have the best idea.

Thanks, gang. I'll hook up with Shelton at Heroes. He took enough of my money years ago. I've been in there a couple of times in the past year and still haven't been able to find Bunky at work next door.

Ready for a good laugh? I took part in a self-published Christian comic book back in 1997. I still love the artform, but haven't followed comics avidly since 1992-99. Five or six years ago I could have rattled off a list of great comics suitable for children by memory. (And it is key to mention that not all comics are suitable for children.) As it is, Ignatowski is right; your local comics dealer will have some good starting points.

I know for a fact that Marvel Comics in particular now has cover ratings comparable to movies. Usually a look at the cover will give you a good idea of what to expect. Usually.

My all-time favorite comics titles are Hellboy, Ghost Rider, Spirits of Vengeance, Sin City, The Punisher, Batman, Saga of the Swamp Thing, Transmetropolitian, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Hitman, Preacher, Fatale, and Death Dealer.

Most anything written by Garth Ennis, Frank Miller, Alan Moore, Warren Ellis, Chuck Dixon or Mike Mignola is going to be a good, solid read. And that's just for starters; there's a shitload of great talent in the comics genre. I'd have to say it's one of the most overlooked and underrated creative artforms out there. After I've churned out a few novels and screenplays, I may even try my hand at scripting some again.

From the 8th grade until my sophomore year of college I subscribed to a bunch of Marvel comics. Still got them upstairs in storage along with the 300+ Matchbox/Hot Wheels cars. If my kids didn't have so many of those I'd be tempted to get them out again.

I used to collect comics until the mid 90's. I became tired of price increases, gimic covers, poor art and story telling. But I was fond of Batman, the X titles, Spiderman (until the whole clone story came about), Spawn, and a few others. From what I see on the web, Transformers is a big seller these days and the art is very good. Dreamwave productions does this book. It seems to me all things retro (toywise) have become hot sellers. G.I. Joe is back as well as Voltron. I was even in NY this past weekend and ran across a Thundercat football jersey.
