19:39 PT: The NY Daily News reports agent David Dunn is expected to take one more shot at a contract extension for New York Giants QB Kerry Collins. Collins has set a July 1 deadline for a deal to be struck. If, he said, it isn't done by then, there will be no negotiations until after this season. It is believed Collins is seeking a deal worth about $8 million per season. Collins will be a free agent after the 2002 season, if an agreement on a new contract is not reached.

I can't believe the fucking money these B players get. Hell any of them for that matter.

    He isn't.

Maybe $5 million - 1 per Superbowl interception.

    8 MILLION dollars?

Has he lost he freaking mind? I wouldn't give him anything more than 4 million a year. That is more in average for a average QB.

His numbers don't warrent a 8 million dollar a year salary.

    Year yds TD Int %
    95 2717 14 19 61.9
    96 2454 14 9 79 In Carolina's best year
    97 2124 11 21 55.7
    98 2213 12 15 62
    99 2318 8 11 73
    00 3610 22 13 83
    01 3764 19 16 77

For a guy that has tossed 20+ TD's a year only once and has 4 more ints than TD where does this bum think he deserves more than what is probably the average for a starting QB in the league? I guess that broken jaw may have knocked his self worth off kilter as well. Sign the contract and consider yourself lucky to have a starting job. If he thinks he deserves 8 then what would Manning or Warner be worth?

The irony is, most QBs with much better "stats" would kill to have his post season success in 96 and a superbowl appearance. - That in itself is worth more than the "stats" - IMO

    but no, not 8 mil

I think what you mean is "most QBs would have loved to have had the support staff Collins had in his few successes". I know that's not what you meant, but I think that the idea behind those teams, philosophically, was the ability for the QB not to screw up, and to make a few plays. That's what I saw out of Collins, and when they were successful, that's what they got. Only a handful of those games in 1996 would I say Collins took over - the 49ers games come to mind.

I've gotta lot of respect for Collins. One can only hope Rashard can bounce back - HIGHLY unlikely.

    But he ain't 8 million a year.

With all due respect to Redcoat (who probably likes them because their uniforms match his country's ugly weather), the Giants are set to implode. Strahan's contract dispute has created a rift, they overpaid for She-horn, who can't keep healthy, and now Barrow is the only playmaker in their back 7. Meanwhile, Collins is going to have to play behind a younger, less talented and expierenced line than he's been used to, and that's always produced bad results with him. Regardless what some have said, he's never been any good when forced to move outside the pocket. Like any immobile QB, he need good consistent protection to be successful. When he's not had that protection, he's fared poorly.

In 96 and 2000 he had that protection, but age and injuries have forced both teams to go with less talented lines the next year. The result has been two 7-9 seasons. Last year, Collins lead all QBs with a WHOPPING 23 fumbles.

That's nearly 3 fumbles for every million dollar. A real deal.
