You just summed it up. Someone's opinion is what determines everything in college football. If OSU didn't start out ranked #1, they might have had a harder time getting this game. What if Hawaii started out #1 and went undefeated? They still don't get in?

They started 11th. USC was #1.

    Oh yeah. My bad.

But what if Hawaii had started #1? They would be in without a doubt without losing. They really shouldn't do any preseason ranking and not come out with a poll until like week 5.

    Hawaii wouldn't start out #1.

Hypothetically if they did start #1 and went undefeated they would end up #1 but Gutters argument was that the only reason OSU is #1 is that they started #1. That was incorrect, they worked up to it from 11.

Unless they scraped by in their lesser division and an BCS team was stomping their greater division and also went undefeated.

Yes, I was incorrect. LSU did start out #2 I believe. If they had not been so high and lost two games, they might not have been able to move back to #2. Just saying that the Preseason rankings gives teams an unfair advantage when they start losing.

They have been hot, but Tennessee beat the absolute shit out of them earlier in the year. Tennessee also played LSU tough and Florida beat the shit out of Tennessee and..and...and...this is why college football is great and sucks this year. It's like being at a party and wanting to find a 9 or 10 chick on the hotness scale and there is nothing there, but a bunch of 6's. You'll take one home, but you ain't braggin about it to your friends. That is what the bowl matchups are like this year.

Harrell is more deserving than Brennan, but both are system quarterbacks. Smith may end up getting an invite after all since Dennis Dixon went down and Kansas lost. Clearly Tebow and McFadden are 1-2, and Chase Daniel deserves to be in that mix as well.
