I am not sure it tells you that directly but when he comes to in the hospital he is obviously not in Petersburg.

interesting flick. picked up when they quit bouncing around from flashbacks to current time -- seemed a bit unnecessary and sorta made it hard to follow at first.

for how good the movie was, i was completely dumfounded by one scene. the one where jude law's character decides to bail on the army. he's in bed and tosses the blanket off of him, then sits up and goes out the window. apparently he wasn't very good at throwing off the blanket so they very, very, very shabbily put a string on the blanket and pull it off as he sorta throws it. but they pull the thing like a second too early. for a moment it looks like nicole struck paydirt with jude -- he's pitching a tent about 2' high. but alas, it's the lame blanket pulling scheme.

i can't believe it made it to the final cut. you'd think they'd have seen it in editing and just picked up the scene a bit later. no harm done -- you get the picture, he's in the hospital and has decided to leave.

I wonder sometimes if I don't pay enough attention when I watch movies after reading about that scene.

my wife and i were both like "what the fuck?" it was tivo'd (PPV) and so we went back and stepped thru it just to sort of laugh. but the thing is, that's what an editor is paid to do. you'd think the editor would have come up with a better solution that simply leaving it in.

but i'm hypercritical about stuff like this.

I saw and episode of Enterprise a while back that had Phlox's animal cages shaking. If you looked close you could see the fish line tied to them.

Damn, Nut was right. I finally got around to seeing this, and it needed serious editing work for starters. Then I would have fired the two British/Aussie leads who can't do Southern accents to save their lives. And to round things out, I'd have canned the twee British director and put someone in who can shoot a realistic battle scene without resorting to slo mo dolly shots of exploding dirt.
