    Rumor mill:

I heard the reason why Mazzone bolted outta here was that he got caught fucking a booster's wife. His wife is still in Raleigh. She's taken all the NC State stuff off the cars and house.

I asked my buddy for any proof of this and he couldn't give me one piece.

I guess the rumor about Earnhardt getting caught with some other driver's wife was standard fare back in the day.

Nice to have an NFL OC to take over when Toney Baker arrives with a host of talanted offensive linemen joining him. :applause:

    Trestman Named Offensive Coordinator

Veteran of Eight NFL Teams to Coach Quarterbacks

    Jan. 28, 2005

Marc Trestman, who spent last season as the Assistant Head Coach and quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins, has been named the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at NC State, according to head coach Chuck Amato.

A 17-year veteran of the NFL coaching ranks, Trestman has coached for eight different teams and in 15 playoff games. He served as an offensive coordinator in two AFC Championship games and a Super Bowl and has coached players such as Jerry Rice, Rich Gannon, Bernie Kosar, Steve Young and Jake Plummer. He has also worked with such well-respected coaches as Bill Walsh, George Siefert, Marty Schottenheimer, Jon Gruden and Bud Grant.

"We are thrilled to have someone with such an extensive resume join our staff," said Amato. "He has worked with such an impressive group of players and coaches and his expertise will be a huge benefit to the Wolfpack program."

Trestman was a member of the Oakland Raiders staff from 2001-2003, serving as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for two seasons and was named the 2002 NFL Offensive Coordinator of the Year by American Football Monthly in 2002. The Raiders won the AFC Championship in 2002 and ranked #1 in the NFL in total offense and passing. He coached Rich Gannon, the league's most valuable player that season, to the NFL single-season records for pass completions (418) and 300-yard games (10). Gannon also led the league in passing yards that season with 4,689.

From 1998-2000, he served in the same capacity for the playoff participant Arizona Cardinals. He spent the 1997 season as the quarterbacks coach for the Detroit Lions and was the offensive coordinator and coached QBs for the San Francisco 49ers from 1995-96. The 'Niners advanced to the playoffs both of those seasons, leading the NFL in passing and ranking second in total offense in 1995.

The St. Louis Park, Minn., native was in private business from 1992-94, after coaching quarterbacks for the Minnesota Vikings in 1990 and 1991. He coordinated the offense and coached QBs for the Cleveland Browns in 1989, when the squad advanced to the AFC Championship after serving as the QB coach in 1988. In 1987, he coached quarterbacks for the Tampa Bay Bucs and spent the 1985 and 1986 season as the running backs coach for the Vikings.

Trestman spent two seasons as the quarterbacks coach at the University of Miami (1983 and 1984), coaching Bernie Kosar and Vinny Testaverde. The Hurricances won the National Championship in 1983 and played in the Fiesta Bowl in 1984. He began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at Miami in 1981 while attending law school.

After playing quarterback at the University of Minnesota from 1974-76, Trestman completed his college career at Moorhead (Minn.) State. He earned his undergraduate degree in political science from Minnesota and completed his Juris Doctorate at the University of Miami in 1982. He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1983.

Trestman and his wife, Cindy, have two daughters: Sarahanne (12) and Chloe (10). Trestman's initial salary at NC State will be $175,000 and he will sign a multi-year contract.
