I'm sure most of you have heard by now of the possibility that Fassel gets canned (personally I'd like us to pick up Sean Payton). Word now is that a guy I mentioned as a vacancy possibility (along with a couple of other college guys, as I see that being the trend) is Nick Saban. Ernie Accorsi had him in Cleveland before Saban left for MSU, and Accorsi was pushing for him as assistant GM with the Giants in 97. Saban couldn't get a deal done, Fassel could, and George Young picked Fassel for that reason. Now that Accorsi's the full GM there, I expect he'll do what it takes to get Saban.

I hadn't noticed all the talk about Holmgren till lately. Randy Mueller is possibly taking over there as GM? He's said to be favoring an OC of some sort, with the name Brad Childress of the Eagles a likely shot.
Holmgren himself is said to be highly sought by the Cowboys? That's odd. And Ray Rhodes may get fired as DC of the Broncos. I'd expect him to go back with Holmgren, who never had a good DC in Seattle after Fritz Shurmur died.

Then the Lions. Supposedly, if Mullen and Mornhinweg are gone (both would have to go), Denny Green?

Former UT OL/TEs coach Doug Marrone is frustrated with his role with the Jets as OL coach and will likely be leaving. Looks like NFL assistant coach free agency is quickly becoming a trend.

thats funny, I just read the same thing. Since it looks like we are going to need a new coach, I would do back flips to see BD wearing Crimson.

we are in deep shit if CDF leaves. Might as well get the DP. I just dont see how he could look his players in the face and say he is leaving AFTER he talked everyone of them into staying last year. Guess we will find out by the weekend, possibly tommorrow. I love CDF but when he takes off that Crimson for the last time he becomes the enemy. If the state of Alabama were totally underwater, CDF would be the only one who would not get wet. I remember when 10 wins and a loss to Auburn would get you run out of the state. Alabama loves CDF, I just hope he realizes it.

    From CNNSi's Stewart Mandel:

    Coaching buzz

Baylor has apparently trimmed its list of candidates to just a handful. Among those who have talked to the school and appear the most interested are Wake Forest's Jim Grobe and former Iowa coach/Baylor alum Hayden Fry.

"If they hire a top coach, I'll support him 100 percent," Fry, 73, told the Dallas Morning News. "But if they need a coach to turn that sucker around, I know I can do it."

Kentucky coach Guy Morriss has also been mentioned for the job and has said he is open to listening to potential suitors.

Alabama coach Dennis Franchione insists he has not been contacted by Texas A&M, despite reports from even before R.C. Slocum's firing Monday indicating he'd already reached a lucrative contract agreement with the Aggies. But the Morning News reported Wednesday that A&M has received permission to speak with Franchione and that negotiations are moving rapidly.

Franchione has repeatedly said he will soon sign a contract extension at 'Bama believed to be worth $15 million over 10 years. It's possible that A&M boosters will offer him even more, but Crimson Tide supporters, desperate to have Franchione steer the program through the rough NCAA waters ahead, would ante up the difference.

USC offensive coordinator Norm Chow, whose latest tutelage success story, Trojans QB Carson Palmer, may soon pay off in a Heisman Trophy, met Monday with Utah athletic director Chris Hill about the Utes' head-coaching opening. Chow would seem to be about the ideal candidate, knowing the state like he does after spending 27 years at BYU.

Michigan State remains deathly quiet about its job, open since Nov. 4. Oklahoma co-defensive coordinator Mike Stoops is said to be highly interested, but that may not be true of Spartans AD Ron Mason, whose list is said to include Bowling Green coach Urban Meyer, Iowa State's Dan McCarney and Brian Kelly of Division II powerhouse Grand Valley.

CDF is gone. Fuck him. He doesnt even have the guts to personally address his players that he talked into staying last year. He is going to address over video phone. Even if he were to say 'no' to TAM, he has burned too many bridges to come back. He better be wheels up when the announcment is made.
