I think Lovie Smith should get it. They have had the biggest turn around this year. Imagine where they might be if they had signed Brad Johnson to backup Grossman......

I hate that beady eyed fuker above. I was hoping for an ejection. That was damned awful display of spoildness.

I like Saban's post games and interviews. He's pretty candid and fair. Plus, I don't think he's ever said that 'it is what it is'. At least that I can remember. And I try and catch him on Coachspeak.

Lovie Smith for COY. He took BS and turned it into a condender in one year. Them boys look good. And unfortunately they even look better with an O, with the return of their QB.

It was fun watchin Mexico get his cold ass cold cocked over and over last night, and his frustration was amusing like a child.

Smith here too. Swept the NFC South, mostly with Orton. Good enough for me.

As noted, I just think people should question whether or not the Bears are for real or if this is another 2001 where they went 13-3, but went back in the tank after that season. I think Lovie is a good coach, but there is no way on earth I'd take him over Belichick or Saban or Gruden if starting a franchise from scratch. The Bears have played good defense, but they've also lucked into some wins thanks to some idiotic decisions by opposing players (Delhomme, Vick, etc). I think Marvin Lewis' work in Cincinnati has been more legit than Smith's.

I did forget about Lewis, wouldn't mind him getting it at all. He may have had the tougher job.

I've thought about this, but I don't see it. They haven't had to rely on hailmary passes every week. They have a better offensive line, and better options at running back. And the current defense is superior to the one from 2001.

And the defense is young enough to be together for a while. As long as they have that, and a running game, they will be a playoff contender.

    QB -
The '01 version was actually better with Jim Miller. Neither team had any long-term solution, so it's very possible that the Bears could go back in the tank without better QB play next season.

    RB -
2001: Anthony Thomas had 1183 yards on 4.3 ypc with 7 touchdowns
2005: Thomas Jones has 1077 yards on 4.3 ypc with 7 touchdowns

    OLine -
Comparing offensive lines is highly subjective, but aside from Kreutz, I'm not overly impressed with anyone Chicago has. They're also old and have a history of injuries, so they could go back downhill next season (or tomorrrow for all I know).

    Defense -
2001: 12.7 points allowed per game
2005: 10.8 points allowed per game

The only real difference here is that Chicago has a much better secondary now than they had in 2001. They forced about the same number of turnovers, and the '01 version actually got more sacks, but this season they haven't given up as many big plays in the passing game.
