six in one hand, half a dozen in the other.
bigger tourney = more teams to beat, making it harder to win it all
bigger tourney = more opprotunities to beat lesser talent , in earlier rounds, amassing more victories.

You can't argue that strong teams being knocked out before you face them makes it easier and not recognize that the threat of being knocked out yourself adds difficulty. More opportunities to lose makes it a more difficult tournament to win without a doubt. If it adds difficulty to one strong team who looses early it add to all teams.

Could be. The scholarship rules and influx of money into more universities certainly changed the level of parity in the NCAA's as compared to Wooden's day. With that said, I think the overall quality of NCAA basketball has been at an alltime low the last 8 years or so.

To me, K's most impressive feat as coach has nothing to do with the NCAA tourney and everything to do with the ACC tourney. To me, 6 titles in 7 years is his most telling stat in how his program stacks up against the rest of the conference.

Agreed, that has made the path easier for some other teams. Not to mention teams like Alabama, Gonzaga, Wake, Syracuse, Oklahoma.

So facing a weaker team is harder than facing a stronger team?

Umm, anytime you play a game you can be knocked out so what's your point?

So does going from 32 teams to 64 teams really make it that much harder for the top teams? One extra game?

Kansas being knocked off by Bucknell obviously made it more difficult for them.

That's cool. K and Smith would both still be chasing Rupp in overall wins and tourney wins if they played as many games back then and had the expanded tournament.

But the odds are still heavily in Kansas's favor. That was a one in a million victory.

What do odds have to do with real outcomes? The only purpose of odds is for gambling.

teams get knocked out early every year

The theory works when you look at a team thatmakes it far, but as we see year after year there are always upsets. However, that team has to fend off that many more upsets possibillities.
